About Wes Clayton

Houston Therapist • Daring Way™ Trained Facilitator • University-Affiliated Clinician

Welcome — I’m glad you’re here.

If you’ve ever felt like you had to stay composed while quietly struggling inside, you’re not alone. Many of the people who find their way to therapy with me are capable, thoughtful, and deeply caring, and also exhausted by anxiety, perfectionism, or the weight of expectations.

My role is to offer a steady, nonjudgmental space where we can slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and work toward greater clarity and self-compassion.

MEET THE THERAPIST

Wes Clayton, LCSW

I’m Wes Clayton, LCSW, a Houston-based therapist and Daring Way™ Trained Facilitator helping teens, adults, and university students find clarity, connection, and self-compassion.

Before joining the Rice University Counseling Center in 2016, I spent over a decade at The Menninger Clinic working in specialized programs for OCD, anxiety disorders, and chronic mental health concerns.

Those years shaped my appreciation for the courage it takes to heal and reinforced my belief that every person’s story holds complexity, strength, and multiple truths.

How I Work

My approach integrates evidence-based practices with a deep respect for vulnerability and meaning-making.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • The Daring Way™ (shame resilience & authenticity)

  • Mindfulness and values-based practices

Together, these approaches help move away from self-criticism and avoidance, and toward courage, authenticity, and connection.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THERAPY

Therapy isn’t about fixing you

It’s about identifying patterns that keep you stuck, understanding the emotions driving them, and practicing new ways of responding that align with your values. We’ll work at a pace that feels grounded and collaborative — with space for reflection, learning, and growth.

Everything You Need to Know Before Working With Me

  • If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, self critical, or simply curious about understanding yourself better, therapy can help. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come to therapy to gain clarity, support, and a healthier way of relating to themselves and their experiences.

  • A Licensed Clinical Social Worker is a mental health professional trained to assess, diagnose, and treat emotional and behavioral concerns. As an LCSW, I provide therapy using evidence based approaches while also considering the broader context of your life, relationships, and environment.

  • The first session is focused on understanding what brings you in, your history, and what you hope to gain from therapy. We will talk through your concerns at a comfortable pace and discuss how we might work together moving forward. My goal is for you to feel heard and supported.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency. Over time, we may transition to a biweekly schedule, depending on your needs, goals, and progress. This is always a collaborative decision.

  • There is no single timeline. Some people come for short-term, focused support, while others choose a longer, more reflective process. We will regularly check in about what feels helpful and appropriate for you.

  • Yes. Therapy is confidential, with a few legal exceptions related to safety. We will review these clearly so you understand how your information is protected.

  • My work integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and the Daring Way framework. Therapy is tailored to your needs and may include insight, skills, and values based work.

  • Yes. I offer HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy for adults across Texas, as well as in-person sessions at my Houston office. Many clients choose a mix of both.

  • I do not accept insurance. I am happy to provide a superbill for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement through their insurance provider.

    • The initial 60 minute evaluation is $225.

    • Individual therapy sessions are $200 for 50 minutes.

    • Family therapy sessions are $225 for 50 minutes.

  • You can schedule a free 15-minute consultation or a therapy session through my online booking system. You may also contact me directly by email, and I typically respond within 24 to 48 hours.

  • I ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling to avoid a fee. I understand that life happens and appreciate clear communication.

Ready When You Are

If you’re considering starting therapy, or even if you’re unsure, I’m here to help you sort through the next steps. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
